BARBIERE SCREEN
HE FOLDING SCREEN IS COVERED WITH WARM GOLD METAL LEAVES EACH APPLIED BY HAND FLATTENED WITH CAREFUL BRUSH MOVEMENTS. THE ARTWORK REFLECTS ON THE ILLUSTRATION OF GEORGE BARBIER HE CREATED FOR THE COVER OF THE BOOK ‘THE SONGS OF BILITIS’ IN 1922 . THE PAINTING IS CREATED WITH A TRANSLUCENT GLASS PAINT TO ALLOW THE WARM GOLD BASE TO SHINE THROUGH THE LAYERS OF PAINT.

CRAFTED FROM PINE WOOD, THE FOLDING SCREENS SHOWCASE INTRICATE ARTWORKS PAINTED BY GERGEI ERDEI, UTILIZING DRY BRUSH MOVEMENTS TO RECREATE THE ANTIQUE EFFECT OF CRUMBLING ANCIENT FRESCOES. ERDEI SKILLFULLY JUXTAPOSES MULTIPLE REFERENCES, SEAMLESSLY WEAVING TOGETHER GREEK AND ROMAN DEITIES WITH THE ROBUST 2-DIMENSIONAL HUMAN ILLUSTRATION STYLE OF ANCIENT EGYPT CREATING A VISUAL TAPESTRY THAT NARRATES STORIES OF THE PAST. EACH FOLDING SCREEN IS A LABOR OF LOVE, TAKING 5-7 DAYS TO FINISH, AND IS A ONE-OF-A-KIND MASTERPIECE.
