As part of a new series of paintings, this work depicts Narcissus holding a flower at the edge of a pond. In Greek mythology, Narcissus was a beautiful youth who, unable to turn away from his own reflection, became consumed by it - an image of longing, self-absorption, and tragic stillness.
Drawing inspiration from the soft hues of ancient frescoes, the painting is composed of delicately layered, translucent washes of colour. These thinly applied tones create a tapestry of subtle light and muted warmth, evoking a poetic, softly blurred atmosphere.
